Tyreek Hill and Cop both at Fault
Tyreek Hill and Cop both at Fault: In case you missed it Sunday, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over for speeding about a block from Hard Rock Stadium on his way to work about three hours before the Jaguars – Dolphins game. Shortly after, Hill was unnecessarily in cuffs face down on the street.
In between those events is where this situation got sideways fast. Here is where Hill was at fault: He was driving a car with tinted windows which he kept rolled up. The first officer to arrive tapped on the window and told Hill to roll his window down. This is police training 101. The officer needs to see inside the car for his own protection in case there is a weapon nearby. Hill opened the window about two inches and began berating the officer about tapping his window. Repeatedly.
Then Hill closed the window. Now two things were occurring at this point. First, Hill was not following simple orders regarding the window. Second, the officer is again in a difficult situation because he cannot see what is going on inside the car.
TYREEK HILL AND COP BOTH AT FAULT
Here is where the cop is at fault: At this point the door is opened and Hill is grabbed out of his car and within seconds is face down in the street with cuffs on. The officer has taken a difficult situation and, instead of calming things down, unnecessarily and forcefully poured fuel on an inflamed situation.
Further more, former NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award Winner Calais Campbell, saw his teammate in trouble and pulled over to see what was going on… with his hands up in the air, by the way. At this point the cop was filled with testosterone and would not let Campbell speak (calmly) and soon afterward Campbell was ridiculously in cuffs.
Tyreek Hill and Cop both at Fault: Granted, had Hill just rolled down his window and handed the officer his driver’s license without agitating the situation everything would have been over in ten minutes. Hill would have received a speeding citation and we would have never heard anything about it. But if the cop had just calmed the situation we would not have had two Dolphins players in cuffs in what appears to be a case of excessive and unnecessary force.
