NCAA Busts Jim Harbaugh for BurgerGate
The NCAA busts Jim Harbaugh, the former Michigan football coach and current coach of the Chargers for BurgerGate, not SpyGate.
What? Let us get this straight.
BurgerGate took place years ago when Harbaugh allegedly took some recruits to a burger joint in Ann Arbor. But it was said to be during a no-contact-with-recruits period due to the Covid pandemic. Harbaugh, Michigan and the NCAA fought tooth and nail about these allegations. Harbaugh never admitted to anything and the NCAA is certain Harbaugh lied to them. Lying to the NCAA is a Level I infraction.
A few months ago, the NCAA settled the case with Michigan by putting the Wolverines on a 3 year probation, fining them and restricting their recruiting time. But Harbaugh never signed off on the deal and so the NCAA still came after him hard. This week they announced a show-cause period of 4 years which basically means he cannot coach a college team until 2028.
NCAA BUSTS JIM HARBAUGH – SO WHAT?
Harbaugh doesn’t care because he just signed a 5 year $80 million dollar deal to coach the Chargers.
What is strange about this is the NCAA is allegedly preparing a Notice of Allegations for Michigan’s SpyGate scandal in which former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions is said to have been behind an advanced on sight scouting operation of future opponents. That is not allowed by the NCAA.
So when the headlines read: NCAA Busts Jim Harbaugh, many thought they were coming after him for SpyGate. It turned out to be for BurgerGate instead. Maybe in three or four years the NCAA will get around to dealing with SpyGate and we can all move on.
