The MLB All-Star break means football is next and fast approaching. NFL players are arriving to summer camps as we speak. And college football coaches and players are making the rounds during their respective conference's Media Days. That means there is nothing but upward hype and enthusiasm from here as we march toward the start of the college football and NFL regular seasons.
The NFL season seems a little closer and more tangible because the first pre-season game, the Hall of Fame Game between the Houston Texans and the Chicago Bears is in two weeks. And there was good news for the Bears as they signed their two first round draft picks just as rookies were scheduled to report to camp. Quarterback, and number one pick out of USC, Caleb Williams signed a 39 million dollar deal on Tuesday and former Washington receiver Rome Odunze is signed, sealed and delivered as well.
FOOTBALL IS NEXT
Once the Hall of Fame Game is under way we will also be several days into the Paris Olympics so we will have plenty to distract ourselves with as we burn through the August calendar. Speaking of August, when I was a kid, August was known as the "dog-days of summer." Hot, lazy summer days would roll by with nothing but a long baseball season to keep us entertained. And it would keep us distracted from the fact that we would have to go back to school soon!
In the mean time, be vigilant! The MLB All-Star break means football is next. It is coming. For more on the latest football news tune in every weekday to ESPN Southwest Florida from 2-6 for Craig Shemon and Company.
