It looks like 2 of our invasive species here in Florida are battling it out for supremacy in the swamp. "Python Cowboy", a Florida python hunter, was on one of his usual patrols in the Florida Everglades. One of the members of his crew is a dog named Otto. And Otto is amazing at sniffing out pythons.
Otto went deep into the sawgrass of the swamp to point out an 11 foot python to the guys in the crew. After they pulled the python from the sawgrass, the Florida python hunter find something else. Here's the video they posted of the catch.
Florida Python Hunter
Python hunting in the Florida Everglades is a dangerous, but essential task. The more the pythons breed in the swamp, the more of them head out of the swamp and into communities like Naples. The same goes for iguanas. They are another invasive species that do serious damage to our ecosystem. It's an interesting twist to see them battle each other. In the video, the python likely regurgitated the iguana it had captured when Otto showed up.
The Invasive Species In Southwest Florida
Some very large pythons have been captured in the East Naples and Golden Gate area. So they are here. As for iguanas, I've seen plenty of those myself. I've seen them hanging out on the banks of the Imperial River in Bonita Springs. It's also quite common to see iguanas near the Estero River. This is interesting, if you shoot an iguana on the river bank and it falls in the water - something will quickly attack and eat it. Not sure what, but something. That's purely hypothetical, of course. Who would do such a thing?
Thank you to our favorite Florida python hunter the Python Cowboy. With some help from his dog, Otto, a python and an iguana taken out at the same time.
