Regular listeners to Craig Shemon and Company on ESPN Southwest Florida are treated to OUR own Harry Caray visit every Friday at 5:30! But the real Harry Caray would have been 110 years old today! Caray was a boisterous fan favorite in the broadcast booth. He broadcast for 5 different major league clubs including the Cardinals and Cubs.
WGN Chicago carried Cubs games nationally every single day because they were one of a couple super stations that were carried on every cable system across America. So when Caray started calling Cubs games in the early 1980's he quickly became a household name. He was known for his thick black framed glasses, sitting in the bleachers without his shirt during broadcasts, and belting out "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," during the 7th Inning Stretch.
Over the years (and century) the Cubs, in part, due to Caray's popularity, became the nation's love-able losers. It's too bad he wasn't around when they finally won the World Series in 2016.
On this occasion of Harry Caray's birthday we will do Harry Caray and Cubs Trivia on ESPN Southwest Florida!
