This Saturday night, it's the Miami Dolphins Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead stadium. The game time temperature is predicted to be around zero degrees and it's likely to be windy, as well. But the biggest complaint I'm hearing here in Southwest Florida is that the game is not on broadcast tv. It's not even on ESPN. The game is to be broadcast on Peacock, a subscription app. And I have a conspiracy theory as to why.
First of all, let me say - they had a choice. One Sunday night game is in Tampa Bay. The temperature will probably be in the mid-50s. That's a good choice if you want an outdoor night game. The other Sunday night game is in Detroit, a domed stadium. But what about the other choices? The 4:30 Saturday game will be in Houston. A dome. Why not flip that game with the Dolphins game, instead of punish the fans in Kansas City? 12 degrees and daylight Saturday afternoon instead of zero degrees and night. Or a Sunday 1 pm game? KC would still be super cold but at least when it's daylight it doesn't feel as bad. Except that there's snow coming on Sunday. Saturday afternoon was probably the best choice for this game. Except - that's not what happened.
I think they're putting the Dolphins - Chiefs game on Saturday night because the NFL has an agreement that, except for the local market, the game will only be on Peacock. There's no free trial on Peacock, if you want the game, you'll likely need to buy the app. And guess which team has a big new fan base that'll do what it takes to watch the game? That's right, the Taylor Swift fandom and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Taylor Swift's fans have shown over and over again, they'll pay to see their idol.
From concerts, to merch, to a concert movie. Taylor Swift is the hottest celebrity in the world right now. And Travis Kelce is one of the hottest NFL players. Chiefs games have have seen an increase in ratings because Taylor Swift is in a suite watching the game. The games she attends are some of the highest rated games of the year. So by the looks of it, the NFL is betting that her fans will subscribe to Peacock to watch this game.
Will Swifites tune in for the Dolphins - Chiefs Game?
Peacock is $5.99 a month, $1.99 a month if you're a student. There's no free trial, so if you want the app for this game, you'll need to buy it. But will there be a sudden rush to download the app to see Taylor? I doubt it. You see, if Taylor Swift goes to this game, she'll be bundled up in so much winter clothes you may not even recognize her. Even with heaters in the suites, is gonna be cold. You know, I don't blame Taylor for this game only being available on Peacock. I don't even really blame the NFL for it. Where do I point the blame?
The Dolphins
The Bills Josh Allen threw 2 interceptions in the end zone, plus a fumble just outside the red zone. Not to mention the poor clock management at the end of the half. The Bills really tried to give that game away, and the Dolphins still lost, costing them a home playoff game and making them travel. A win from the Dolphins last night and the situation could have been different. We may not have even been discussing this. So I blame the Dolphins.
