Sports Gambling is Legal in Florida
Sports gambling is legal in Florida… finally! After a slow two year legal battle between the state of Florida and the Seminole Tribe vs the West Flagler Group is over. And the result is the Hard Rock Bet app active in Florida. In October the state and tribe won a huge legal battle when a motion of stay was denied. For now the Hard Rock Bet app is the only mobile provider offered to people in Florida. The agreement between the state and tribe clearly states that 2 additional providers will have access in the state. There is no timeline when that decision will be made. So for now it’s the Hard Rock Bet app or nothing. It’s still a relief that sports gambling is legal in Florida. The Seminole Tribe announced this is being offered with limited access to existing Florida customer to test it’s Hard Rock Bet platform.
This is different than in 2021 when Florida sports gambling was legal for a few weeks.
Looking back on the decision to turn the app on before letting the legal process play out was a mistake. I do not believe that is a possibility this go around. It seems unlikely the US Supreme Court would take the case seeing they just made a ruling on sports gambling a few years ago. I suppose they could look at the agreement between Florida and the Seminole Tribe, but again I think this is unlikely. So it seems that sports gambling in Florida is here to stay. At least for 30 years as that is the length of the agreement between Florida and the Seminole Tribe. Be responsible and enjoy legal sports gambling in Florida.
