You got to love these insane tales of the Florida man. This time, it's a story that involves spilled beer, a hatchet, and one man's questionable impulse control. Because in the Sunshine State, it's not the gators you need to fear... It's the beer spilling vigilantes lurking in the shadows.
According to FOX35, Danny Tharp, a 56-year-old Floridian recently found himself in quite the pickle. It all began with a spilled beer... A common, everyday mishap, you might think. But not for the Florida man! An acquaintance made the grave mistake of letting a brewski take a nosedive. And as we all know, to the Florida man, that's a party foul. Tharp, fueled by a passion for his suds, pointed fingers and laid blame like it was the crime of the century.
Spilled Beer Fear:
Tharp allegedly decided to take matters into his own hands. Or, rather, a hatchet, to be precise. With a silver blade and a blue handle, he swung it wildly at his beer clumsy victim. Multiple times. The result? A brawl that wouldn't be out of place in the movie Roadhouse.
As the Escambia County Sheriff's Office put it, this was a display of "a depraved mind with no regard for human life." No kidding! After the victim managed to escape the tent and summon the authorities, the Sheriff's Office was hot on Tharp's trail.
They found the crime scene marked by a trail of blood both inside and outside the tent. It was all reminiscent of a horror movie set. And, of course, a silver hatchet with a blue handle conveniently nearby, just in case you had any doubts about the weapon of choice.
Tharp's escapade didn't end well. With a court date on the horizon, a hefty bond, and his newfound reputation as the beer avenger, he's left us all shaking our heads. It seems in Florida, even a spilled beer can turn into a headline grabbing drama.
Florida’s Highest Rated Beers
Like all revolutions, this, too, began as a desire for change—as an overthrow of the old and the monopolistic. In 2010, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Molson Coors (formerly MillerCoors), two of the largest beer companies in the world, comprised roughly 77% of total beer sales in the U.S. In 2020, that share was 60%, with smaller brewers claiming a larger share toward the end of the decade.
With a taste of the innovations and variety coming out of craft breweries, consumers are demanding a higher quality product, and are willing to pay more for it. Over the last decade, beer prices have increased by 33%.
The increase in the number of microbreweries, taprooms, brewpubs, and craft breweries, the sector has also led to enormous job growth over roughly the same period, with a 55% increase in the number of brewery employees. The industry was hit especially hard by the shutdowns and social distancing restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic. On-premise spending accounted for 50% of the craft beer industry’s total sales in 2019. In 2020, the industry took roughly a $6 billion hit and eliminated more than 22,000 jobs.
Another important byproduct of the explosion of the craft beer industry is the sense of community it has fostered. Supporting small businesses like local breweries and taprooms is a way for people to connect over and about beer, to appreciate the renaissance of the millennia-old tradition of brewing.
