No Tricks Just Treats For Your Pets This Halloween

We have a couple of weeks until Halloween officially arrives. However, the decorating, the parties, the costumes and other shenanigans are already beginning to take off across Southwest Florida. If you have furry members of your household (husbands and boyfriends don't count), don't forget to look out for them. We want no tricks just treats for your pets this Halloween. Calls to poison control for animas typical escalate by 12% during this holiday season.

Dressing your pets up is fun and cute for the holidays. But make sure they can see and breath easy. We want no tricks just treats for your pets this Halloween.

Most dog lovers know to keep chocolate candies away from dogs. However, that is not the only Halloween goodie that can cause illness. Jamie Freyer, DVM for Veterinarians.org says, "Gum often contains a sweetener called xylitol, which can be life-threatening for dogs. Raisins and grapes can cause kidney failure."

Just like humans, too much sugar is not goof for our pets. Even apples can be harmful. Not the fruit itself, but the seeds inside contain cyanide which is a poison. Perhaps next to the candy bowl, put a second bowl of goodies for the animals. Keep those holiday treats and bags of candy up and away from pets, dogs especially. And remind the little ones that while they can, and should, share their candy with mom and dad, they should not do the same with their beloved dog.
