NFL WEEK ONE IS HERE!!!

NFL week one is here! Finally! The desire for NFL football begins one, maybe two, weekends after the Super Bowl when we all start to feel withdrawal pains on Sunday afternoons. Maybe we dull the pain with college basketball. Then we look ahead to USFL and XFL. But those leagues are fools’ gold and they really don’t fill the void. Perhaps we have a college team and we pay attention to their spring games for a few days to get us to the NFL Draft. Before we know it, we are drawn into a long summer of counting down the days to summer camp. The Hall of Fame Game means we are finally at the finish line and the season is within our grasp!
Hope springs eternal for all NFL fans in September. Surely, our team’s draft picks and free agent acquisitions will make us better than last year, right?
Certainly there is excitement for fans of the Lions and Chiefs who open NFL Week One on Thursday Night Football.
The Lions may have the best roster they’ve ever had. But it feels strange to have optimism in Detroit. That will take some getting used to. On the Other side, the Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions. They had an injury scare with Travis Kelce this week. And Chris Jones is holding out. But as long as Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are together they will always be a threat.
Elsewhere around the league, buckle up for a rough ride Tampa fans. The saving grace for this team is that they are in a horrible division where a sub .500 record can get you in the playoffs. And with a home post season game at that! The Bucs open at Minnesota where the Vikings are masters of the win-by-one-score method. The Dolphins have high expectations and open on the road against the Chargers. Miami’s top goal is to keep Tua Tagovailoa healthy. That, by itself, should lead to wins.
But the best team in Florida might be the Jaguars with Trevor Lawrence. He is ready to take the stage as a top 5 quarterback in this league and the Jags are expected to take the AFC South.
NFL week one is here! Enjoy!

NFL Power Rankings; Lions Crack the Top 10
The NFL season kicks off within the month. Here are how the team’s stack up heading into the season with my NFL power rankings. I have the Detroit Lions has the highest ranked team that missed out on the playoffs last year. The Jahmyr Gibbs pick was scoffed at me the “experts”. But he looks like a potential Christian McCaffrey or Alvin Kamara the way he can be used in the passing game. Dan Campbell has turned the entire operation around in Detroit. And reports out of training camp are glowing about Jared Goff and his command of the offense. Staying in the state of Florida, I am really high on the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins this season. Both are stacked rosters with young quarterbacks in their rookie contract window. The time to strike is now for the Fins and Jags.
The biggest move of the offseason was Aaron Rodgers leaving Green Bay for the New York Jets. Most talking heads have the Jets as a legitimate Super Bowl contender. I do not see it that way though. Rodgers will improve the offense from last year. But what’s that saying when you rolled out Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Mike White? Rodgers was not his MVP self last year. If that was just a blip on the radar, then I expect the Jets to be the best version of themselves. But I am not buying into that yet. Anyway, here are the NFL Power Rankings heading into week 1 of the NFL season.
