Legalized Sports Gambling Coming to Florida
The road to getting legalized sports gambling in Florida has been a long, hard, and slow ride. But it looks like we’re inside the 5 yard-line and on our way to legalized sports gambling in Florida soon. Floridians got a taste of sports gambling for 3 weeks in 2021. Then West Flagler sued and won their case against the Seminole Tribe and the state of Florida, shutting down the industry. However, in late June a Federal Appeals Court ruled against the original ruling. The 3-0 vote in favor of the compact between the Seminole Tribe and the state was legal.
West Flagler once again appealed the decision at the 11th hour, and put sports gambling in the state on hold. But since the appeal by West Flagler there have been some bread crumbs left behind that could lead one to think legalized sports gambling is coming to Florida soon.
The appeal filed on June 30th by West Flagler opened a 21-day window for the appeals court to request more information. The court only waited 3 days to request a response from the Seminole Tribe. We are now in a 15-day window where the Tribe can submit their response. This will be the final submission in the process. West Flagler does not have the ability to reply to the response. This leads me, and others, to believe the court doesn’t want to drag this process out. And last week the Hard Rock Sportsbook updated their terms to include the state of Florida. It appears that the Seminole Tribe will activate their mobile sports book to Florida residents as soon as the ruling comes down. Possibly before the NFL season kicks off on September 7th.
The Teams That Should Trade For Jonathan Taylor
The running back market is in a peculiar state right now. The last two rushing leaders are trying to get new deals, and their teams will not hand them out. Josh Jacobs with the Raiders and Jonathan Taylor with the Colts. On Monday evening the Colts granted Jonathan Taylor’s camp permission to seek out a trade. Since then more reports have surfaced that the Colts are looking for a 1st round pick for Taylor. Which makes absolutely zero sense. How can you tell a guy through the media that he could leave the league tomorrow and nobody would care, but then say he’s worth a 1st round pick. The logic is simply not there. NFL teams will recognize that and I’m sure if Taylor does get dealt it won’t be for a 1st round pick. But there a definitely teams that should trade for Jonathan Taylor.
The Colts have botched the Jonathan Taylor situation every step of the way. And new they are going to pay the price by either trading away their best offensive weapon, seeing him walk out the door for nothing next year, or franchise tag him. We’ve seen the way the running back’s hate being franchise tagged this offseason. So if that is the end result, Colts fans can expect a summer of drama next season. Should the Colts move on from Jonathan Taylor there will be plenty of teams that kick the tires on the All-Pro back. He only carries a cap hit of $5.12 million this season, making him an option for a lot of teams. But what are the teams that should trade for Jonathan Taylor?
