It's hard to believe the start of the new school year is less than a month away and Sam's Club is offering discounted memberships for teachers in Southwest Florida.
I always remember summer vacation going by SO fast when I was a kid. Especially because I grew up in Illinois, the summer is the only guaranteed time that it'll be warm. Obviously here in Fort Myers, the weather is a different story since we have year-round summer. But up there, we had to take advantage of every second of that summer break. Whether it was playing outside, swimming in the pool or taking an extended vacation.
But here we are, less than a month away from the start of a new school year, already! As much as we loved summer vacation, I do remember that I always loved going back to school shopping. Getting to pick out my folders, pens and pencils and of course that new pair of gym shoes! But with three kids, I know that cost my parents a pretty penny.
How much is the membership discounted?
I learned recently that teachers here in Southwest Florida have to buy their own school supplies, which is insane to me. That can get VERY expensive! Well, Sam's Club is here to help. Not only at Sam's can you buy in bulk, but right now they're offering a great discount to teachers. Through August 15, teachers can get 60% off a standard Sam's Club membership, so you'll pay only $20.
You get can the offer online or in person, but you do have to be a new member of the retailer to get the special membership price.

Five Ways To Cool Off In The Southwest Florida Heat
Television meteorologists in Fort Myers, Naples and Cape Coral have been reporting on the high temperatures every day this month. They say it is the hottest summer on record in nearly ten years. And it's not just Florida that is feeling the heat. Folks all across the nation are suffering. To help out, here are five ways to cool off in the Southwest Florida heat for TikTok Tuesday.
The heat can be deadly to both humans and animals. If you have a pet, check out some tips here to keep them safe this summer. In addition, the ideas stretch beyond the heat. I've seen tons of DIY tips of how to out smart mother nature's hot blast right now. One of them involved wetting sheets of aluminum foil and placing them on windows. The foil reflects the heat and drops temperatures around the windows drastically. If that seems like a bit much, try to keep your curtains closed, even during the day, to block the searing sun and the heat it projects into your home.
The ideas below offer everything from herbal beverages and sweet pads, to DIY air conditioning set ups for those rooms that don't get much air. Another idea that everyone is doing, placing a bowl of ice or ice water in front of a fan. The air it blows drops significantly.
You do not have to have a TikTok account to view these ways to cool off.
I do. I've done all the work too. All you have to do is scroll down and it the arrow button in the middle of each of these. They are all office friendly too. Hopefully you will find some kind of inspiration, a new way to beat the heat because it is not going anywhere anytime soon.
