Time Travelers Beware: Daylight Saving Time Sends Everyone Forward an Hour This Sunday
This Sunday, Daylight Saving Time will send everyone forward an hour.
As the old saying goes, “Spring forward, fall back.” And Sunday, we’ll be springing forward into daylight saving time. Which is great if you appreciate the longer days, but not so much if you’re dreading losing an hour of precious sleep. But fear not, there’s some tips and tricks to make the transition a little more bearable.
First and foremost, start preparing your body a few days before the time change. Gradually shift your sleep schedule forward by 15-30 minutes each night so that your body has time to adjust. Trust me, your circadian rhythm will thank you come Sunday morning.
Another helpful tip is, especially next week, to take advantage of the extra sunlight in the evening. Whether you go for a walk, take a bike ride, or even just go sit on the beach for a little while (provided the red tide situation improves). Not only will that Vitamin D help you adjust to the time change, but it’ll also boost your mood and energy levels.
Usually, it’s the fall back that gets me. However, if you’re feeling especially groggy come Monday morning, try to resist the urge to hit the snooze button. Instead, jump out of bed and get moving right away to shake off the sleepiness. And if you still feel that midday crash, at least you won’t be alone. Millions of people across the country are dealing with the same time change, so commiserate with your coworkers, friends, and family.
I would prefer no time changing at all. The Sunshine Protection Act has been in talks for a while now. If it’s signed into law, it would permanently extend daylight saving time for the entire year. You can read more on that here
This Sunday at 2am is Daylight Saving Time goes into effect, so don’t forget to change those clocks! Happy time traveling!
