Here’s Why Owning Backyard Chickens in Fort Myers Is a Clucking Terrible Idea

Bird Flu Found In Scotland

Are you thinking about getting your own little flock of backyard chickens in Fort Myers? Well, let me stop you right there and tell you that it's a bad idea. And I'm not just saying that because I don't like the clucking sound they make. No, no, no. There are so many other reasons why owning backyard chickens is a terrible idea.

Sure, some places in Southwest Florida it's legal. Also, you might think that raising your own chickens will save you money on eggs. According to Instacart, the average cost of a dozen eggs in Florida is a whopping $6.36. That's not cheap, but when you factor in the cost of a coop, fencing, feed, and your time, you'll be shelling out a lot more than that. And let's not forget about the cost of replacing all the things your new feathered friends will destroy.

But let's say you're willing to overlook the cost. What about the noise? You see, chickens are not quiet creatures. Have you been to  Immokalee?  You'll quickly find out that they are the most annoying alarm clock you've ever encountered. The rooster across the street from me was so loud that we couldn't even leave our windows open on nice days. And if you have neighbors nearby, they won't be too happy about the constant crowing either.

And let's not forget about the mess. Chickens are dirty animals, and they're not meant to live in a residential area. They produce copious amounts of waste and leave feathers and debris everywhere. Do you really want to be picking up chicken poop every day?

Owning backyard chickens is a bad idea. They're expensive, noisy, and messy. And let's face it, you probably don't have the time or patience to deal with all the headaches that come with raising chickens. So save yourself some money and sanity, and just buy a dozen eggs from the store. Your wallet (and your neighbors) will thank you.

Best Fried Chicken in SWFL

Today is National Fried Chicken Day! So to celebrate the holiday we're going to check out the Best Fried Chicken in SWFL.

According to Wikipedia, "The origin of fried chicken in the southern states of America has been traced to precedents in Scottish and West African cuisine. Scottish fried chicken was cooked in fat, but unseasoned; while West African fried chicken was seasoned, but battered and cooked in palm oil. Scottish frying techniques and African seasoning techniques were used in the American South by enslaved Africans."

Because we're on the coast, everyone just assumes that seafood would be the game here. But we also have some amazing pizza, Mexican food, and if you're not aware, there's some mighty amazing places to get fried chicken.
