The festivities for Super Bowl LVII In Phoenix begin this Week! Here's the main talking points going into this Sunday's game.
What You Need To Know in Phoenix
Super Bowl LVII between the Chiefs and Eagles will historic in a number of ways, highlighted by the quarterback matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. This will be the first ever Super Bowl matchup between Black starting QBs.
In addition, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce both reaching the game marks the first time brothers have opposed each other in the Super Bowl.
Both teams are recent Super Bowl champions with Kansas City having won in 2019 and Philly doing so in 2017. It is the first time in 40 seasons that both Super Bowl participants had won a Super Bowl within the last 5 seasons (Super Bowl XVIII between Washington & Raiders).
Things come full circle for the Chiefs, who return to State Farm Stadium where they kicked off their 2022 campaign. Things went well with a 44-21 win over the Cardinals.
The Chiefs are the 3rd team to play their season opener and the Super Bowl at the same stadium, along with the 1981 49ers (Pontaic Silverdome, Detroit) and 2021 Rams (SoFi Stadium, LA). Both teams ended up winning the Super Bowl.
The Eagles, they are trying to win their 2nd Super Bowl in 6 seasons, but with an entirely new head coach-QB combination (Sirianni-Hurts after PedersonFoles in 2017).
They would be the 2nd franchise to win the Super Bowl twice in a span of 6 seasons or fewer with a different starting QB and head coach, joining the 1976-80 Raiders (Madden-Stabler, Flores-Plunkett).
Youngest Quarterback Duo Ever For A Superbowl
Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts will be a combined 51 years, 337 days on Super Bowl Sunday, surpassing Joe Montana and Dan Marino in Super Bowl XIX as the youngest Super Bowl QB matchup all-time.
Mahomes is the presumptive league MVP for the 2022 season and has a chance now to become the first player in NFL history to win multiple league MVPs and championships within his first 6 seasons.
As for Jalen Hurts, he’s 16-1 as a starter including playoffs this season. The only QB to go 17-1 including playoffs in a season and win the Super Bowl is Hall of Famer Joe Montana in 1984.
I will have lots of other fun facts and breakdowns all week. Lots more coming up today on the Shemon and Sheppard Show 2-6pm. Craig's Indiana Hoosiers beat #1 Purdue on Saturday. He will no doubt be insufferable today.
