COVID restrictions affected many of the activities in big cities that people loved most. So they stayed away. That trend is changing and it began last year.
During last year’s holiday season, travelers began returning to major cities. The trend is expected to continue this season.

Popular U.S. destinations for 2022 year-end holidays include New York, Las Vegas, Orlando, Chicago, San Francisco, and Honolulu. People don't mind the crowds as much when there is not a global pandemic. When it comes to international destinations, the most popular cities to visit include London, Paris, Rome, and Cancun.
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, historically, is the busiest travel day leading up to the holiday weekend. However, in 2021 people began traveling earlier in the week. Monday took over as the busiest pre-Thanksgiving travel day for airports. A similar trend was seen around Christmastime.
Just because Americans are ready to travel more does not mean all will. Prices for airline tickets are up 40% in some cases. The rise in tickets prices is forcing many to drive. If you are traveling traveling by car to a big city, or even a smaller one, leave early in the morning to avoid as much traffic as possible.
