Nets Hire Jacque Vaughn

Nets Hire Jacque Vaughn

The Brooklyn Nets have hired Jacque Vaughn according to every big time NBA Insider. The move comes as a bit of a surprise for Brooklyn. When Steve Nash and the Nets split up (he was not fired), it was widely reported that Ime Udoka would get the job. Then Kyrie started tweeting. The Brooklyn Nets went into full court defense. They tried to get Kyrie to apologize for posting an anti-Semitic video. The lack of an apology resulted in at least a 5 game suspension for Irving. I believe this was the reason the Nets changed course and did not hire Udoka. Udoka's antics behind the scenes in Boston resulted in a season long suspension. And it get so bad behind the scenes that Boston was fine letting Udoka walk to Brooklyn without any compensation.

This is not Jacque Vaughn's first time around the Nets organization. Vaughn took over for the Nets following the dismissal of Kenny Atkinson in March of 2020. Vaughn coached the team in the bubble, and had the team playing solid basketball. The team was 7-3 in the 10 games under Vaughn and got bounced in the first round of the playoffs. Vaughn is now under contract with the Nets through next season. But with so much turmoil in Brooklyn, would anyone be surprised if Vaughn doesn't see the end of the contract? Should the Nets tear it down at the end of the season? Kevin Durrant wants out of town. He requested a trade last offseason before smoothing things over. Kyrie is a toxic player right now that I'm sure the Nets would like to move on from now, but will probably have to wait.
