The Pittsburgh Pirates Oneil Cruz is 6′ 7″ and Throws The Baseball 96 MPH – He’s A Shortstop
I speak from experience here. When your favorite team isn’t good you need to find a reason to watch, a reason to get excited. The Pirates fans have found their reason. Oneil Cruz was called up to the show on Monday. Even though his stats at AAA weren’t stellar – Class AAA Indianapolis (.232/.336/.422), Oneil made an immediate impact in last night’s game. Cruz went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI leading the Pirates to a 12-1 win over the Cubs. Check out these numbers, a throw to first base at 96.7 mph, a line drive to center that left the bat at almost 113 mph, and wow is he fast. This should have been a stand up double, not a play at third.
3 innings into his 2022 debut, @Pirates' Oneil Cruz has registered:

🏴☠️The hardest throw by an infielder in @MLB this year (96.7 mph)
🏴☠️The hardest hit ball of the year by a Pirate (112.9)
🏴☠️The 3 fastest sprint speeds of the year by a Pirate (31.5, 30.7, 30.3) pic.twitter.com/nScTK5mD4A
I mentioned the throw to first, check it out, no arc on that ball at all.

Cruz is doing these things. I’d like to thank Cruz for giving Pirates fans a reason to watch. Being 10.5 games back on June 21st feels pretty insurmountable so it’s good to have some joy. And the height? Same as Aaron Judge, actually. He doesn’t look 6′ 7″ until you see him next to some of his teammates.
