New Oklahoma Sooners QB Likely To Score Big NIL Money – Because of His Name
The University of Oklahoma Sooners have received a quarterback commit that happens that he has the best name in college football. He received offers from New Mexico, Presbyterian, Liberty, Yale, Nicholls State, McNeese State and Louisiana-Monroe, and one from the school he selected - Oklahoma. He's the nephew of former NFL qbs John David Booty and Josh Booty. He also played his senior year of high school at Allen High School in Texas, where Kyler Murray went. His name?
General Booty
My inner 12 year old was so excited to write this article.
His dad Abram, who was a wideout at LSU, gave him the name "General". He certainly had to know that the name "General Booty" was going to attract attention. What his dad could not have predicted, was that his son would enter college right into the cash free-for-all know as NIL.
It may be a joke, but hey - it might not be. American Eagle has already reached out.
Jordan Addison is reportedly getting more than 3 million to go to USC, so the money is out there. General Booty has showed some skill in the high school level but has yet to be tested in college with the Oklahoma Sooners. Will he be amazing? We don't know. Will he score a NIL deal just because of his name? That is likely.
College Football is changing at a rapid pace. College football transfers is a big part of it. The introduction of NIL on the heels of the “Transfer Portal” becoming a big deal has led to pseudo free-agency.
Top ranked signees are no longer willing to wait their turn behind upper classmen, coaches can bring players with them to their new jobs, and boosters let it known what type of money is waiting for disgruntled players at other programs if they chose to come to their school. For the fans it means we need to get reacquainted with our teams, and some of the big programs across the country.
Here are the most noteworthy transfers heading into the 2022 college football season.
QB Caleb Williams (Oklahoma to USC)
Williams jumped on the scene last season when he was put in for struggling Spenser Rattler and provided a spark for the Sooners offense. He followed Head Coach Lincoln Riley to Los Angeles in a move that surprised nobody.
QB Quinn Ewers (Ohio St. to Texas)
Ewers is the highest rated high-school prospect EVER! He left high-school early to get to Columbus and get that NIL Monday that was HUGE. CJ Stroud is clearly the guy in Columbus, but Ewers can challenge Hudson Card as the starter in Austin this season.
QB Jaxson Dart (USC to Ole Miss)
Dart was good at the end of last season with the Trojans. As soon as Caleb Williams transferred into the USC program, Dart became a very attractive option for top-tier programs. He will put up great numbers in an explosive Lane Kiffen offense. There are plenty of question marks in the Rebals’ offense that will feature 10 incoming transfers between starters and backups.
WR Jordan Addison (Pitt to USC)
Last season’s Biletnikoff winner (the nation’s top WR) hit the transfer portal, and immediately was tied to USC and Lincoln Riley. There is a rumored $3 million NIL deal waiting for him with the Trojans. Texas and Alabama have made late pushes to bring Addison to their programs but it apparently wasn't enough. The Trojan offense is going to be absolutely loaded this year.
QB Spencer Rattler (OU to SCAR)
Rattler was supposed to be the next name in the long list of OU quarterbacks to put up gaudy numbers. He was talked about as a potential #1 overall pick heading into the 2021 season before a very underwhelming saw him benched and quite frankly act like a child. He has all the talent in the world, and maybe going to Columbia takes some pressure off of him, and we see the talented player who showed glimpses while at Oklahoma.
WR Kobe Hudson (AUB to UCF)
Hudson was the leading receiver for the Tigers last season with 44 receptions for 580 yards and 4 TDs. Whoever’s under Center for the Knights (Mikey Keene, John Rhys Plumlee, or Joey Gatewood) will have an absolute stud to throw to.
RB Jahmyr Gibbs (GT to Bama)
Gibbs was good in a bad offense at Georgia Tech in 2 seasons averaging 5.2 ypc. Gibbs is an explosive back that has game breaking speed. Put him in an offense where opposing defenses can’t key on him, and his name will be the next in a long list of great running backs coming out of Tuscaloosa.
RB Zach Evans (TCU to Ole Miss)
Evans might be the best running back in college football next season. Lane Kiffen offenses in Oxford haven’t featured the back like his time in Alabama, but Evans is an absolute stud. The former 5-star recruit will put his stamp in the SEC.
TE Jahleel Billingsley (Bama to Texas
Billingsley was put in the dog house by Nick Saban for whatever reason in 2021, but his 202 and 2019 number where solid. Billingsley has work with Sark in the past at Tuscaloosa. Billingsley is too talented not to help the Longhorns offense.
CB Eli Ricks (LSU to Bama)
Ricks was an All-American while with the Tigers, so it was a surprise when he spurned the Tigers in favor of the Tide. He has 5 interceptions in 14 career games.
WR Mario Williams (OU to USC)
Add another name to the long list of incoming talent for the Trojans- specifically from Norman. Williams has 35 receptions for 380 yards and 4 TDs as a true freshman.
QB Dillon Gabriel (UCF to OU)
Gabriel showed a ton of arm strength and talent while with UCF, but a broken clavicle ended his 2021 season after just 3 games. New OU OC Jeff Lebby comes over from Ole Miss in an offensive system that should highlight Gabriel’s skillset.
WR Jermaine Burton (UGA to Bama)
Burton was the leading wide receiver for the Dawgs last season. Nick Saban and the Tide have already shown what they can do with transfer wide receivers- just look at Jamison Williams last year/ Burton will come in and be one of Bryce Young’s most reliable targets.
LB Drew Sanders (Bam to ARK)
Sanders is a good player who couldn’t get enough playing time in a stacked Crimson Tide LB room. Arkansas’ will should have 5 incoming transfers starting for them week 1 vs. Cincinnati.
S Brandon Joseph (NW to ND)
If you’re a top notch Safety, Notre Dame has shown the ability to get you to the next level. Joseph is used to the smash mouth style football that’s played in the Big Ten, but the Golden Domers will feature him in more ways that run stopping.
EDGE Jared Verse (Albany to FSU)
It’s not often an FCS product can contribute at the FBS level, especially at a program like Florida State, but Verse fits the profile athletically. He played both sides of the ball in high-school, and ran track for his team- he’s 6-4 250lbs!!! He will fit in nicely for the Noles.
DT Akheem Mesidor (WV to MIA)
Mesidor should slide into one of the 2 starting DT roles for the Canes this fall. Last season he recorded 38 tackles with 4.5 sacks while in Morgantown.
OT O’Cyrus Torrence (UL to UF)
The Gators, as with programs going through coaching changes, saw a lot of action in the portal this offseason. The Gators are bringing in 6 transfers, with 3 of them being UL players following Billy Napier. Torrence should come in and start for the Gators immediately.
