The human remains found at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie who has been missing for over a month, the FBI said on Thursday afternoon, according to CNN News.
The FBI said dental records confirmed the identification.
Partial human remains were found Wednesday afternoon on a trail Laundrie frequented in the park, officials said. A backpack and the remains were found in a location that was previously under water.
Laundrie's parents took FBI agents and North Port police to the location where "some articles belonging to Brian were found," according to a statement by Laundrie attorney Steven Bertolino.
Laundrie was considered a person of interest in the disappearance of his fiancée Gabby Petito. Her body was discovered on Sept. 19 in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming, and her death was ruled a homicide by "manual strangulation."
Cause of death has not been confirmed at this time.
