Target Removes Pokemon Cards From Shelves Due To Safety Concerns
The recent surge of popularity in Pokemon cards and other popular trading cards has caused Target (and reportedly Walmart) to suspend in-store purchases to "ensure the safety" of their customers and workers. This recent surge in popularity stems from streamers and YouTube creators opening packs of Pokemon cards (and other popular trading cards) and revealing their card findings, some of which can be worth up to $2,000.
This increased demand has caused fights, including a report of a gun being drawn over sports trading cards in a Wisconsin Target parking lot, as well as an increase in theft.
Customers of Target are now welcomed with a note in the Trading Card section stating: "To ensure the safety of our guests and team members, effective May 14th, MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokemon Trading Cards will no longer be sold in stores until further notice."
Target has confirmed that Trading Cards can still be purchased through the Target website.
