Chris Evans Rumored to Come Back to the MCU as Captain America
Update: Chris Evans has supposedly responded to the rumors of him returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain American in a tweet.
Rumors are starting to swirl that Chris Evans could be returning to his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans has had his ups and downs in comic book movies with a much-maligned start as Johnny Storm in Fox’s Fantastic Four. But his Captain America has been universally loved. With 11 Marvel Studio credits under his belt, he exited the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame after finding his happily ever after and passing the shield onto Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson aka the Falcon.
Much like Robert Downey Jr. and his Iron Man, Evans said he was done with the MCU. Back in May, he said, “It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it's better left that way…”
So what could possibly be bringing him back into the fold? The most likely answer is simply a cameo. With Disney Plus series like Falcon and the Winter Soldier or movies like Doctor Strange and the Multiverse Madness, there are plenty of places Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios could drop him.
The interesting thing about these rumors, however, is that it seems like it might be more than just a cameo. The reports are coming in that negotiations are currently happening for a deal that could include up to three more movies after whatever this initial appearance would be. If Evans does return it’s likely to be a supporting role only and not to star in his own standalone Captain America movie again.
