Collier County commissioners voted 3-2 to pass a mask mandate during an emergency meeting on Tuesday morning, according to NBC2.
Commissioner Penny Taylor requested the emergency meeting for reconsideration of Item 10E from the July 14, 2020 Board of Collier County Commissioners Meeting.
Face coverings will be required inside public spaces and businesses. Exceptions to the mandate include businesses such as restaurants, gyms, fitness centers, barbershops and beauty salons where wearing a mask could interfere with service.
Masks also are exempt for church congregations and children 9 and under.
The mandate also does not apply to the cities of Naples and Marco Island. However, the cities could vote to opt-in.
The mask-wearing requirement will remain in effect through midnight on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2020.
The county also agreed to spend $25,000 to educate businesses on the mandate and provide signs for storefronts.
