The Other Identity Podcast: Teenage Heroes in Marvel and DC Comics

Teenage Heroes Marvel DC

The dynamic duo of Robbie Landis and Ben Morse is back once again for another episode of the Other Identity. The Other Identity is a podcast dedicated to exploring the culture birthed by comic books. This week Robbie and Ben catch up on the current results of the Marvel Villains bracket and play a game of #NameAComicBookBadly. Plus, they take a look at the history of teenage heroes in Marvel and DC Comics. From sidekick to stand-alone hero, who are the best teenage superheroes?

The Marvel Villains bracket draws closer to its conclusion. As we head into the semi-finals Magneto the master of magnetism goes up against Loki the God of Mischief. On the other side we have Ultron duking it out with Thanos, two of the Avenger's all-time greatest foes. You can help decide who is the greatest of all Marvel Villains by voting at the bottom of this post.

Robbie and Ben take the time to talk about some of their favorite superheroes. While heroes may have started out as adults in the Golden Age, the Silver Age started to introduce us to sidekicks. They were almost always younger versions of the titular hero. Normally differentiated by adding 'kid' or "lad' onto their name. Such as Kid Flash or Aqualad. But over the years they've grown and become more than that. In the best cases, they didn't even start out at sidekicks but as heroes all their own.

Finally, the Dynamic Duo of the Great Landis and Professor Awesome list of some of their favorite teenage heroes in Marvel and DC Comics. DC Comics even has an entire team dedicated to the concept of the teen hero in Teen Titans. From Spider-Man to Batgirl, Robin to Robin to Robin, there are countless examples of teenage heroes on both sides. Listen to the full episode to find out who Ben and Robbie think is the best among them.
