Pablo Sandoval Signs New Deal with Giants

GIANTS

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – OCTOBER 24: Pablo Sandoval #48 of the San Francisco Giants rounds the bases after scoring a two run home run to left field against Justin Verlander #35 of the Detroit Tigers in the third inning during Game One of the Major League Baseball World Series at AT&T Park on October 24, 2012 in San Francisco, California. There are good news and bad news for Pablo Sandoval fans. The good news is the San Francisco Giants have reached a deal with the free-agent that will see him return to the organization in 2020.

The bad news is until he proves himself, he won't actually appear in a major league game.

Sandoval, 33, has signed a $2 million contract with the Giants that guarantees him a spot on the organization's minor league team, Giants officials revealed on Wednesday.

Per the deal, the third baseman will receive an additional $750,000 if he's promoted to the major league club.

The new deal represents a considerable drop in pay for Sandoval, who once enjoyed a $95 million contract with the Red Sox.

He was cut loose about halfway through the contract, however, and has been a Giant for the past two and a half seasons.
