A Hiccup in the Eagles QB Plan

A Hiccup in the Eagles QB Plan

The preseason Super Bowl rematch between the Eagles and the Patriots provided a scare for Eagles fans when Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles injured his throwing shoulder when he was hit by Adrian Clayborn during his windup on a deep throw.

Foles is supposed to be the Eagles’ safety plan at QB while Carson Wentz continues to heal from his devastating knee injury from December. Wentz says it will be “real close” as to whether he is ready for Philadelphia’s season opener against the Falcons. It’s been my opinion that there is no need for Wentz to return too quickly since his injury usually takes a full year to heal and he is the long term answer at QB for this team. So why risk coming back too early?

If Foles’ injury is serious then the team’s QB succession plan becomes complicated. Perhaps they will be in the market for a short term veteran backup. Or they can rely on Nate Sudfeld who threw for 3 touchdowns and 312 yards against the Patriots after Foles left the game. Plus Sudfeld and I have a lot in common. We both went to Indiana University. Maybe a Hoosier can save the Eagles’ season.
