FLORIDA GATORS, GUNS, AND GAMBLING

A scary story is developing around the Florida Gator football program and it makes last year’s credit card-gate look like child’s play. On May 28th a confrontation escalated between a Gainesville area gambler named Devante Zachery, also known as Tay Bang, and several members of the University of Florida football team. A friendly relationship between tight end C’yontai Lewis and Zachery reportedly turned for the worse when Lewis called the team “garbage” and complained how he lost money when the team started losing football games.

Surveillance and witness cell phone video shows Zachery, 21, and a group of his friends waiting for several football players near their campus dorms. When the players arrived a confrontation ensued. The players left in their vehicles and vowed to return “strapped.” When the players returned at least one of them held an airsoft gun resembling an AR15. Luckily everyone scattered when the police approached.

This type of incident might be reason to pause as we are on the cusp of legalized sports betting in this country.

Consider everyone involved lucky. Nobody died. Nobody was hurt. But stupid split second decisions can cost lives and careers. And the scary thing about this story is that it does not feel like this is over in Gainesville. Good luck Dan Mullen.
