Cleveland Has No Love For Kevin Love
Yesterday during our show the Cleveland Cavaliers announced they signed their remaining star, Kevin Love to a $120 million dollar extension. It was a good move for a franchise that has lost Lebron James and Kyrie Irving in the past year.
Kevin Love is no slouch. Look at his last four years in Minnesota.
He averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds a game. His numbers dipped a bit in Cleveland when he was relegated to the team’s third option on offense.
Even so, with career numbers averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds a game, coupled with a championship ring, multiple Finals’ appearances and the fact he will be the top offensive option in Cleveland moving forward, it is not ridiculous to think of him as a potential Hall of Famer.
Yet his signing ceremony at the Q yesterday felt like anything but a Hall of Fame signing. In fact, the team had to recruit staff members and local construction workers to attend the ceremony in order to fill the room.
Think about that! People earning $30,000 a year were asked to stop working their jobs so the team could make them witness a guy signing for $120 million dollars.
However, I couldn’t help but wonder what things would have been like if Lebron had remained and signed a contract extension with the Cavs.
The entire city might have shut down so that everyone could have attended his ceremony. Two future Hall of Famers. Two different possible reactions. Come on Cleveland! You are better than that.
